Community Kitchen Participates in 13th
Annual $1 Million Giveaway to Fight Hunger
For the 13th consecutive year, Alan Shawn Feinstein will
divide $1 million among anti-hunger agencies nationwide
using it to raise funds during March and April, 2010.
The more donations made from March 1 – April 30
Challenge, the more Feinstein money is proportionately
shared with local agencies! Many agencies featuring this
challenge in the past have increased donations two or
three times their usual returns.
Donations can include cash, checks and food items
(valued at $1.00 per item) or pledges, as long as they
were obtained ONLY in connection with the Feinstein
Challenge from March 1 to April 30. One of The Community
Kitchen’s (TCK) generous and long-time supporters has
again offered to match local contributions up to
$25,000. For example: If you make a donation of $25 in
March or April, it will be matched dollar for dollar,
making a total of $50 contributed. On May 1, we will
send our report listing the $50 as part of the total
amount received in donations. In August, Feinstein’s one
million dollars will then be divided proportionately
among all complying agencies, with a minimum of $250 and
a maximum of $40,000 to any one agency.
Feinstein’s past 12 annual $1 million challenges to
fight hunger have raised a record $1 billion for over
2,000 agencies nationwide. This challenge enables local
donors to be partners in the most successful effort to
fight hunger of all times. That is something to take
pride in! A full report of the results of the 2010
Challenge will be posted on Feinstein Foundation’s
website
www.feinsteinfoundation.org .
We have been very fortunate in the past as some
individuals, organizations and towns wait for this
challenge so their donations are doubled! Last year our
community generously donated money and food toward this
challenge which, along with the Feinstein Foundation
funds, provided 183,962 meals at our average cost of
$0.69/meal. We utilize the much needed food from the
USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP)
distributed through our local Community Action Program.
Further, during lean times when the NH Food Bank does
not have enough low-cost nourishing food to purchase,
TCK and other local pantries must purchase food,
unfortunately at higher prices.
Please help The Community Kitchen and other local hunger
organizations take advantage of these matching
donations. Checks may be made payable to: The Community
Kitchen, PO Box 1315, Keene, NH 03431. Again, please
note: ONLY cash, check and food item donations received
from MARCH 1 through APRIL 30 can be reported.
Thank You.
